Indore-Patna express derails near Pukhrayan in Kanpur district. According to the latest reports, over 107 people have lost their lives and more than 200 people were injured when 14 coaches of Patna-Indore express derailed.
The incident took place on 20th November, 2016. It happened 100 km from Kanpur district at 3 am (IST). Rescue operations are underway. Over 250-300 police officials are carrying out the rescue program. The ministry said,” All hospitals have been asked to be on alert. More than 30 ambulances have been made available.”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi offering the condolences announced Rs 2 lakh each for the deceased and Rs 50,000 for the injured in the accident.
Minister of railway Suresh Prabhu offered his condolences announcing Rs 3.5 lakh for the families of the departed and Rs. 50,000 for those who are critically injured in Patna-Indore Express derailment incident. He also announced compensation of Rs 25,000 for those who have minor injuries.
Akhilesh Yadav, Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh has announced ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh each for families of those who died in the derailment and Rs 50,000 for badly injured. Besides he also instructed the health ministry to ensure no shortage of medicines and blood for the patients of Indore-Patna express derailment.
National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams are also seen on the spot helping the police pulling out the bodies of the victim. The numbers of the dead can rise, the cause of derailment is not yet known, but according to the sources the derailment is caused due to railway fracture. The exact reason will be known after the entire inquiry on the incident is done.
