Pink is for girl power, pink is for passion, pink is much more than just pretty. Mumbai introduces its first all new pink auto rickshaws driven by women for women. These empowered bold auto rides are definitely going to shake the Monday blues off to a more jazzy start of the day for Mumbaikars.
These pink autos have hit the Mumbai traffic for the first time in history, yesterday. Behind the wheels are 548 strong and determined women who have recently gotten the three-wheeler license from the Maharashtra Transport department. And it’s not limited only to the perimeters of the business capital of the country, the Bollywood central metropolitan, apart from the 465 license holder women in Mumbai this ranges to 83 other women drivers as well from other parts of the state.
All the auto-rickshaws are painted beautifully but the only colour variation one could see is definitely Pink. This progressive move is aimed at enabling more and more women drivers to get a job. Needless to say this will also ensure the safety of all the women commuters in the metropolis and will protect them from sexual harassment. Women passengers will get a preference over their male counterparts to avail these pink autos.
Though Mumbai is not the first Indian city to start the Pink auto initiative the model has been already implemented in Ranchi post the vicious Delhi gang-rape incident of 2012.
Kerala followed the footsteps and introduced its first 24X7 She-Taxi, India’s first women driven taxi network promising to provide commuters with a safe and swift ride. The success of which is now taken to another height as Kerala is now planning to have its first She-Bus, driven by women for the convenience of women passengers, an all women bus trip, a start of a remarkable journey.
Now it’s time for Mumbai to experience the girl power. Let the pink take over the world.
